So, can we have any feedback on the two new updates? Do they work? Have you found a way to break them?

I am not a super dank coder but I had some questions towards the dank devs. I made personal websites when I was younger, and I am touching up on my javascript but....

If HTML5 atWar uses JSON data to store... data(units, map borders, etc)
then what does silverlight use?
--------------------------
Which game engine did you guys base this off of, or did you guys work from scratch?
-------------
and wow i guess as of a few days ago, the developer tools has been disabled on atwar, there goes my learning experience.
---------
Is there a changelog for the atwar-game.js (just curious i have seen it change from i think .43 to .48[but now dev tools are gone ])

-----------
Thanks for taking the time to read my questions, I have more for whoever knows the answers

1. Silverlight uses XAML for map borders.
2. It's not based on any game engine, though we do use some frameworks, like Bootstrap.
3. You can use developer tools on the test site. There's been rampant abuse of exploits in the game, that's why we've disabled them.
4. We don't have a changelog at the moment, though we probably should.

Okay, I tried to register an account using the same username that I have on the main server, and it says "account with this name already exists". I tried searching for that username in players list on the test server, and there is no exact name "Pavle". I suppose that test server uses the database that is connected to the main server database, am I right? I think that it isn't safe to have connected databases.

The database it's not connected, it's an older copy of the main database, that's why your account is there. We've deleted all sensitive info though, like e-mails and passwords, that's why you can't login into your old account and have to make a new one.

I can not log in my account to the test version. i thought the purpose of that was to test new map editor (you can't with new account). or you did'nt put updates to see yet? anyways send me a mail if you need help with checking it.

From the news post:

Quote:

Test site uses a test service and test database, so everything is completely separated from the live site. You will have to create a new account, as your old account password wouldn't work (privacy concerns!). We'd also advice not to use the same password you're using on the live site.

Later we'll arrange some way to test premium-only features there, no worries.

Fixed. We're still tinkering with some small things, sorry.

OK, we've discovered an exploit that involves the test server, so it's closed for now until it's fixed.

The "get a programmer" option is the correct one, as we now realise we're not likely to find the time to do things ourselves.

With due respect, "may considering" does not strike any certainty in real life, let alone in AW claimed by an admin who promised the same "Map Editor 99.7% done" years ago.

I will admit it's somewhere at the very bottom of our to-do list, so don't expect it any time soon. Much more pressing issues to deal with.

Given how long some people have been getting away with these abuses, you can't just expect it to all go away over night. Would be reasonable to increase punishments for repeat abuses rather than insta ban... Or whatever "zero tolerance" means in this case.

If you read the rather short news post carefully you'd know what we mean in this case. 1 week ban for the first offence, perma-ban if caught again after that. I think it's reasonable.

You might have heard that I was lenient towards the black colour exploit - however, after talking to Amok we agreed that a more consistent approach is better. We'll also try to add more server-side checks whenever we're able, to ideally make editing client code irrelevant.

When are you guys going to canvas investment to Vivendi-Ubisoft so you can get a solid influx of dev money to hire a larger team? I'm sure they would love to drop money into a game that could potentially give Paradox a run for their money if they knew a milk franchise could be developed from it. Not even memeing here.

Nobody is going to give us money. They'd rather get their developers to create a quick knock-off if they wished to, and have a complete control over it.

Quote:

1.Fix server so we can play like humans.
2.Release map editor already.
Admins promised that gonna be done 2 years ago. We can't wait anymore.
3.Demote inactive and useless mods.
4.Implement two new strategies. Even if they suck, we just need something new. We can make a topic with suggestions for new strats.
5.Fix codes. It is so easy to exploit some of bugs.

1. Got extra DDoS protection now, should help against the outages. Though large scale and prolonged DDoS is no joke, whoever is doing it is one dedicated asshole.
2. We've advertised for programmers, interviewing 2 candidates in a few days. Since we continuously fail to find the time to do do it ourselves, perhaps this is the only way.
3. This is an odd one, compared to the seriousness of other problems. Why would it bother you so much? I see inactive mods retaining their status as a way to honour their contributions and allow them to come back if they feel like.
4. OK.
5. See #2

Btw, Amok's reluctance wasn't because of the price (which is very reasonable), it's because we had some problems before with Cloudflare re-routing. Unfortunately, neither of us could remember what the problems were, but probably something IP-related.

We've got some extra DDoS protection installed now, let's see if it helps.

cheers for that! so when the map maker?

Well, Amok is hoping to find a programmer to finish the editor. I'm hoping to find some time to work on it too, even though the remaining bits seem to be outside of my dev skills.

It is shown in city menu...

...but nowhere else.

I'm happy to report that I've fixed the problem. Actually releasing it is another matter - there's a bunch of code from the unfinished map editor that might break stuff, so Amok promised to check if it's safe to release.

I had a look, but unfortunately it's not an easy fix. And now I'm also wondering if it wasn't done this way on purpose - to avoid confusion from other players, for example. I honestly don't remember. It's very strange if it wasn't ever working, but we're only talking about it now.

Does changing General icon work for anybody? I'll have a look to see if I can locate the problem.

Written by Tundy, 30.04.2017 at 13:08

What happen to all the old names that players used to have in their profile? is it just me or this game keeps losing features as time goes on.

Fixed. Not sure what you mean about losing features - if anything, I've just added a new feature that allows deleting your old names (they would then be only visible to Mods).

Yes, it's the real me. I cannot do anything about the editor or the server (as both are in Amok's domain), but I'm trying to do what I can in the limited time I have.

One doubt, if I may. Quote: "This doesn't mean we're going to promote the most upvoted ones, but we will certainly take them into consideration."

Who are these "we" involving? In other words, who are the people, in plural, in charge of judging these suggestions?

Me, Amok, current Mods.

Is this even the real Ivan? You want me to believe that after so many months of innactivity, game collapsing, ivan comes back all of a sudden, doesnt say nothing about map editor or server problems or game dying, totally ignores that, decides to add new supporters all of a sudden(half of mystics clan and ppl who never did nothing for the community) and demote old ones(like cold case and croat),and then after in just 2 days adds them he decides to add new moderators without letting no one know.Ahaaaaa.And all that started when HDrakon came back. All you dudes that you see a mods add post and u so blind to even sit and think why this is happening, and just propose, and even proposing shit ppl who dont worth being mod at all, like game had not more serious problems, seems like we solved them and now all we need in new mods and moderators....Wtf

Yes, it's the real me. I cannot do anything about the editor or the server (as both are in Amok's domain), but I'm trying to do what I can in the limited time I have.

Fair enough, but if the game isn't a priority to you, why don't you sell it?

No one's buying.

Do you even try to find buyers?

No.

Thank you for responding and being active in this thread. If you guys continue to check the forum regularly, and respond every once in a while, I think that would make a big difference. I understand that you're struggling with time, so best of luck with that, and hopefully you find the time sometime.

As you can't hire someone with money, why not search for someone qualified from the community to be a temporary programmer in return for ProtoCoins, special privileges such as free incognito or something, and maybe a free premium to give to one of their friends? I don't know how persuasive that is, but someone might be willing in this community.

I probably would've checked the forum more often, but the amounts of negativity here are not healthy, and the signal/noise ratio is pretty low as well

As for getting a programmer - as I said, we're discussing opening up the client code, so anyone would be able to contribute. The biggest problem would be vetting and testing the incoming code, which also requires non-trivial amounts of time.

I used to be pretty angry about everything until I realized that in all reality coding is a strenuous thing that takes quite a plethora of time to function properly (atleast with this kinda stuff). Cut ivan and amok some slack...

It's even more strenuous when you have to do it at 10pm, after an intense day at work and dealing with a demanding toddler at home

Thank you for your response, it is very much needed, but I have a few concerns that the community shares:

- The fact that you intend to support AW is great and a relief to hear, but you also need to show it. People are concerned about map maker, servers, etc, and we have not heard from you guys in ages (I went inactive for a few months and came back, and nothing had changed). If we can just get a realistic ETA for the map maker and a show of some commitment, I think the community will be greatly put at ease, and activity will start to grow again. While numbers may have not necessarily fallen, quality has. Competitiveness has declined and no new maps are coming out. While the game is still enjoyable, this is an issue that needs to be tended to.

- We don't want the game to be pay2win for sure, but we also want to see the game moving forward. I know that you guys are busy and all, but the community has some great ideas for not only things to implement, but also ways to enhance the overall game quality, such as hiring a full time programmer and giving them a percentage of monthly premium revenue or of the game as a whole.

I hope you can take some time to go around the forums and see how the game's doing, and we all hope that you guys update us and keep in touch.

I'm afraid I cannot give a realistic ETA for the map maker, as it's entirely up to Amok at this point, and trust me, I'm doing what I can to push the subject every time we talk. He has a few days of holidays now, hopefully something will get done.
Of course, there are plenty of things for me to do as well, but I just cannot seem to find the time. This is as frustrating for me as it is for you, trust me.

It would be nice to have the budget to hire people - for marketing and programming, but our revenue is rather pitiful, and we can't really afford it. One thing we discussed was opening up the client source code, but that needs more consideration.
