Normandy Invasion scenario

Hello, I'm am sixthdoctor, and frankly I'm quite new to this game. But I was reading the forum about different scenarios before being interrupted to play a quick game of Axis and Allies: Normandy Invasion when I thought why not have scenarios of real life battles of invasions like maybe a Vietnam war scenario where you play as either the Vietcong or US military. I just thought that it would be extremely interesting to see the invasion of Normandy play out the way players would do it in an Afterwind format. If you have some other ideas for unique scenarios or battles(maybe even sci-fi like a Jurassic park or star wars scenario)then feel free to express your opinion.

The problem with these kind of scenarios is that they take place on a very small scale. It took the Allied troops in WW2 something like 3 weeks just to capture Normandy after Operation Overlord (I can't remember its name though). In Afterwind, you can move all that distance with a single infantry unit in one turn, or "week" as it's called.

I've tried things like this, but Afterwind only really works with large-scale conflicts. WW1 and WW2 can totally work though.

PS: most Americans tend to ignore this fact, but the ARVN had a far larger role in the Vietnam War than the US military.

True, but what if you made the map smaller, the entire map was of only France and you could move a bit slower. Back in those times you couldn't capture an entire country in one week like in afterwind.

P.S. I knew that the ARVN had a larger role, but nevertheless the U.S. had a huge role in the war.

You can only remove countries (you can't make the map smaller). And you can't slow down troops either. I guess you haven't tried the scenario creator, have you? It is a disappointment for most people.

No I haven't used the scenario creator but cant The Creators make something like that?

Maybe take it before D-day say start in sept 1943 and the invasion of Italy coupled with d-day invasions?? In terms of authenticity obviously the dates are out but in terms of game it could work

1 v 1 or 2 v 2 would be good

Allies - UK Morroco, Algeria, Tunisia + extra forces

Axis - Germany Italy Switzerland Netherlands Belgium

Total Annihilation


With the 'Atlantic Wall' and walled up cities it would take longer than the 1 week to take out countries. Anyways try it out I look forward to seeing if it works

It looks like a good idea, maybe using militia, however that is the only way I can think of it. It would be boring though
