Since American Presidential Election is near, i was reading about Republican and Democratic Party, their ideologies, history, size, and then i realized American Society is not passive at all. For good comparison i'll post party membership in some other countries; Russia: United Russia: 2,000,000 Liberal Democrats: 600,000 Communist Party: 500,000 Fair Russia: 400,000 Other parties: 500,000 Total: 4,000,000 China: Communist Party: 90 million America: Democratic Party: 40 million Republican Party: 30 million Total: 70,000,000 Taking in consideration that America have 320 million citizens, this mean every second working-age American is party member! Even if compared to highly politicized & ideological historical countries, America is still on top of the list per percentage: USSR: 290 million citizens, 20 million party members = 7% of total population Nazi Germany: 65 million citizens, 8 million party members = 12% of total population Fascist Italy: 43 million citizens, 6 million party members = 13% of total population America: 320 million citizens: 70 million party members = 21% of total population China: 1.37 billion citizens: 90 million party members = 6% of total population Russia: 145 million citizens: 4 million party members = 3% of total population This is clear indication America have the most politicized society which is shock atleast to me because Europe and Russia are known for high politicization of various spheres of life i.e. Greek Crisis, Portuguese Elections, Spanish Crisis, Italian Politics, German leftist-nazi clashes. Take in mind that i only used 2 American parties ignoring the minor ones and their party membership.

in germany, a party membership basically just means that you pay them like 10 bucks per month

Whats your point? You're trying to say America is more extreme or something? I don't get it. I think you're reading too heavily between the lines.

You didn't read all then... Point is at the end, that America have politicized society unlike others in the Western world or developed countries where politics play minor role in everyday life (atleast until migration crisis)

Surprise doesn't lie in the people or system, but in the quantity we speak of.

So, according to that, if Democrats pay $10 a month, times 12 times 40 million members, that's around $4 billion. More than some countries have annual budget. No need for state donations to make (political) campaign during elections.

You know that in communism not "everyone" can be part of party, but to be on important position you had not to be "threat to state/society/fill in" which meant to be member of a party. CCP accepts only best of the best in their lines, but they moved away from communism In today's europe being party member means nothing, I mean it gives you a chance, but you have to fight, simple membership is not that important, while in USA you get that feel with primaries and voting before elections, but that has it's downsides, look at trump, and his support by minorities.

I would say the higher numbers suggests higher passivity. That being said, I think this is the most intriguing election to the common American citizen. First time I've seen politics be a rather commonplace subject in conversation.

Because of the Lobbying in Wall Street and Washington DC. They say there are 100,000 lobbyists/spin doctors there and that branch make $9 billion a year. Plus large private corporations which can hire an army of lawyers to find a law loop in order to evade paying taxes. Or cheat on quality, like European truck makers recently.
That is a problem then, because then it is not equal elections: any citizen have right to create a political party and run for elections, but if he doesn't have money to pay TV ad, radio ad, pay a stage in city center to give a speech to the masses; his voice won't be heard and people will vote for others who are constantly showing up on TV, go from town to town to give speeches etc. State should provide money for political campaign to all parties, but same amount of cash, not different according to party influence or membership size. Basic party funding is required to pay TV ad, radio ad and lets say town to town speeches. If some parties want more funding, they can seek in corporations support, dinner fundraising or any other form they please. That's one of the problem in Russia and basic problem for which West accused Putin of totalitarianism, back to USSR and less political freedom; when he raised the standard required to register new political party so State doesn't waste millions on political parties during elections. There are already democratic party, communist party, conservative party, nationalist party so creating more is just copying. 90% of parties in Russia are one man who put a name on the paper 'to create a party' then he recieve $1 million for political campaign but he spend that on buying villa, car, yacht, travel to exotic places and when elections end he simply say 'oh well, looks like i lost, nevermind, i'll run in 4 years again, cya!' and he drives off in Masseratti-Mercedes-Maybach SLX 5000 Limited Edition. If you end that, West cry less freedoms, if you allow that, Russians cry corruption, you can't make everyone happy.

i'm not saying its good to not have state donations, in germany we have them too. i think we can just agree that america is an oligarchy, because realistically, it is, thats what bernie sanders' failure proved, he had his entire party against him. but russia isnt much better. yes, you can make a party, but didnt you get the news? some opposition leader got shot in the head on his birthday

you can't place all of the blame for Bernies loss on the party, while it was a factor he had no where near as much as support as people were led to believe

Yes, she has the support of the party, establishment, and banks, she is one of the most corrupt people in the world, and she conspired to cheat Bernie in the race, but even without all that he still wouldn't have won, you can't win when your only appeal is to historically illiterate young people, most of whom don't vote

so, you dont think that this much support and waaaaaaaaay much more money doesnt change a fifth of the votes? please, bernie has other appeals too, he's literally the only presidential candidate any european or canadian would have voted for. he at least believes in what he says and didnt change his beliefs in like 20 years. i'm pretty sure that the conspiracy against bernie really helped clinton, not just a tiny little bit. bernie actually got some of those non voters and gave them someone to vote for because he stands up to his beliefs and what he says actually makes sense.

Ukrainian democracy is the best >create coup >install nazi government >start civil war >drain all reserves and prostitute to EU for funds Don't worry it will be better, half of your country already moved to Russia to work on construction and farms. They voluntarily deported themselves to Siberia and Far East. Soon more will come, enjoy your Ukrainian wasteland Oh but before we give you asylum, come here and bend over:

You won't last long anyway, its a matter of days when you'll have electricity cut off because failed state.
I love how newly created countries like Croatia and Ukraine like to point out nationality for the fact they are new and confused in the Old World of already established countries and nation. Inferiority complex 10/10 Now go upvote yourself with that alt.
