I wouldn't buy bitcoin, I don't see significant profit from buying and selling it. There are other currencies (ICO's) that have seen their price rising (along with Bitcoin). Be careful though: these currencies are unregulated and are tied to the success of a business. If the business fails, you gain nothing.

Fundamentally, currency is all about the perception of value. Even so-called "reserve currencies" like the US Dollar don't have any tangible, natural utility. They have value because everybody thinks they have value. If bitcoin continues doing well, more people will be convinced that bitcoin has value, which means bitcoin will actually have more value, which means bitcoin will continue doing well, and more people will be convinced that bitcoin has value, which... Like many, many other things in economics, the value of bitcoin's subject to a positive feedback cycle. As long as bitcoin keeps doing well, bitcoin will keep doing well. In terms of bitcoin as an investment product, I think it has great value. Obviously I'm not an expert here, but my considered opinion is that having bitcoin and other such sketchy crypto-currency ventures in your investment portfolio would be a great idea, if and only if said investment portfolio is balanced with lower risk, lower return investments like treasury bonds and index funds. Generally speaking portfolios that contain both high- and low-risk products perform better than portfolios that only contain one.
