Afterwind.
Back in the game's beginning.



1) First user of AtWar? "Tester". It was an account made by the Admins for test the game.



2) The great Merge, the charge between AtWar and Afterwind was made on 28/11/2012.


3) The First Moderator was Cardinal. However the first "Moderator Team" was:

7) The AtWar Times Network, better know as ATN, is a central where people submit reports, articles and opinions about the game. It emerge as a combination from LDK's Afterwind Times (AT) and Mathdino's Afterwind News Network (ANN). The homepage can be found in the next link:

AtWar Academy

8) If you are still a newbie and would like some advice for improve, then you can have a mentor willing to help you! The community also have an AtWar Academy in which you can have a class about certain knowledge in atWar. It is currently presided by ]Mr_Own_U.

The AtWar academy first idea comes from a player named Emir Timur, (currently Kentuckyball). He suggested the community to make "a program" that allow lowranks to be trained. After that, Soul Reaper (currently Soul) started the first "Adopt a newbie" program. After 6 months, when Soul left atWar, Madara took care of the program, launching the Second version of the " Adopt a newb".

However, after 2 months madara left the game for a while and shutted down the program. Therefore, Mr_Own_U made the actual one. This is the link to the currently AtWar Academy:

10) Max units UK can get on paris turn 1: 52

11) Max units UK can get on netherlands turn 1: 48

12) Wondering why your infantry are slow? The Perfect Defense strategy give -1 range to infantry.

13) Lack of attack power? SM infantry get -1 attack. They are more likely to lose in a battle between 2 infantry vs 1 militia.

14) Max units turkey can get on kiev turn 3(PD): 100-120.

15) Max units ukraine can get on kiev turn 3(SM): 100-105.

16) Spain can beat NC france rush on rome, however, it requires tanks. Some of the strats capable to do this are GC, LB and PD.

17) Max units italy can get on madrid turn 1(PD)(many vary in TeamGames): 35

18) Relentless Attack( RA) is the most used strategy of the game.

19) However, PD is the most used strat for 3vs3 eu+ extra cities game.

20) Some facts about cost-efficiently units:


GW militias: 4 attack / 30 cost = 1 attack per 7.5 cost. RA tanks: 9 attack / 100 cost = 0.9 attack per 11 cost.
GW marines: 7 attack / 70 cost = 1 attack per 10 cost.. SM bombers: 8 attack / 130 cost = 1 attack per 16.25 cost.
IMP infantry: 3 attack / 30 cost = 1 attack per 10 cost.. MOS marines: 8 attack / 110 cost= 1 attack per 13.75 cost.
IMP militias: 2 attack / 10 cost = 1 attack per 5 cost.. DS helicopter: 8 attack / 130 cost = 1 attack per 16.25 cost.
PD infantry: 4 attack / 50 cost = 1 attack per 12.5 cost.. HW marines: 6 attack / 70 cost = 1 attack per 15 cost.





Checking at the table, the IMP militias and GW marines are one of the most cost-efficiently units in the game, while the DS helicopters and SM bombers are at the worst cost-efficiently units.

21) While checking the battle log, you may notice there are some strange lines. They are stealth units! With some calculation, you can know their location:

This is what you see, some strange lines on Luanda and Luena. Even though you see the lines, in the last turn you didn't saw any unit in that location, and it doesn't look like Luena or Luanda got stacked with infantry, bombers, tanks... ect:



This is what your enemy see: Submarines and marines!


This trick can be used for know if the enemy have any submarine or marine. Although you can't see marines or submarines or stealth planes, if they enter on a city, the game register their lines.

With this information you can know there are stealth units going at your territory, so you can prepare a better defense.

Another example:

There is a line from Birmingham to Plymouth, then a strange line from nowhere attack Ireland!



In the middle of the sea, there is also a line that goes from nowhere to Plymouth. Check how the units in Plymouth are the same as in the last turn ( they are stealth, therefore, they don't appear in your screen).










Maneuver.
For a better use of unit's range.




22) Chaining transports: With a simple trick you can avoid mixing transports and use them in the most efficient way possible.

Secure you have enough distance for move the sea transport.
Without click, put the mouse over the units. Click on the sea trans.
Now you can move the sea transport and leave the infantry drowned on water.
Take the infantries drowned with the other sea transport, and move on.

When this trick is used effectively, the transports can travel far and perform efficiently. Chaining transports, you can go from Bilbao.... to
Saint Petesburg!





Going from northern and Baltic sea I managed to get from Bilbao to Saint Petesburg chaining 4 sea transports. I also tried to go from Barcelona to Saint Petesburg, using 3 expensive Air Transports. The sea transport chair also allowed me to carry 20 troops with Naval Commander, while the Air Transport with SM can only carry 6 troops in total.

23) Is possible to drown land units on sea, and even make a wall.




24) Land units wall on sea are breakable by naval units under some circumstances, if you can aim to the center of the line of wall:


25) You can cross from UK mainland to Belfast without sea transport, following the next steps:

zoom out to the max


26) A naval unit can take/jump to Glasgow from the other side of scotland.


27) There are some places where you can cross if you put the sea or air transport in a specific place. Some of theses "bridge" are:

28) You can cross naval units across a small patch of land, and land units across a small patch of water. Very useful for maneuver:

Brittany shortcut:
Zoom in to the max, looking to anchor the boat as far as possible.

Click. Game will automatically adjust the boat to land.

Try to move the boat, and anchor further on land.

You will notice how you took a small patch of land.

Move on. Is useful to look to the smaller distance between water and land for sail easier.

32) What determines the amount of reinforcements on a country? According to Cardinal Ouellet :

2.7 Million and + : 8 reinforcements
2.3 Million and + : 7 reinforcements
2.0 Million and + : 6 reinforcements
1.6 Million and + : 5 reinforcements
1.3 Million and + : 4 reinforcements
0.9 Million and + : 3 reinforcements
0.6 Million and + : 2 reinforcements
0.5 Million and - : 1 reinforcements

(Vienna = 2.3 million= 6 reinforcements.... but salt lake city 2.3 million =7reinforcements).

45) The richest countries of Africa also hold the highest reinforcements rate of the continent. South Africa lead up with 33 reinforcements, followed up by Nigeria (21 reinforcements) and Egypt (20 reinforcements). Other countries that offer a high rate of reinforcements are Morocco (13 reinforcements) , Cameroon (12 reinforcements) and Kenya (10 reinforcements).

I didnt calculated it with 100% critical. I calculated it knowing that the critical will affect it somehow. I pointed you that the "average rate" of your formula(4.5) will grow as critical interfer more in the game. It will go from 4 to 15 (also told you to no use decimals). As for the way for calculate criticals, yes I use standart + critical, hence why numbers like 9,10,11,12,13,14,15 are incluides.

4.9? that is not a very good way for calculate it. Critical work's like " Take this +8 or dont take it" So you cant really add 0.4 attack based on a value that is random.

Again, if you keep focusing your point at low scale battles, then you will be right. But as you are growing stacks the average will also grow. 8 is just a great middle between 4 and 15. I would say 9, but 8 more reliable.

Unfortunately you did calculate with the critical included as part of the average attack. You assumed that attack values go up to 16, when they go up to 8, so you are acting like there is an equal chance of getting an attack including critical as there is of getting any other attack. This is blatantly wrong, and I don't know what I can show you that I haven't already to explain. You misunderstand the entire idea of critical.

Secondly, whether the game accepts decimals or not DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT THE AVERAGE IS 4.5 FOR A TANK. The game may not deal decimal damage, but this is still the average. Take 10000 rolls or so and average them and you will find that the average attack is very close to 4.5. Whether it is possible for 4.5 to be dealt is entirely arbitrary.

Thirdly, adding 5% critical will cause a rise to 4.9. I know it will either happen or not happen, which is why standard formulas are only reliable for large battles, and small battle could differ significantly, but if you averaged the rolls including critical you would get about 4.9 attack. I don't like adding it to the 4.5 because it is very random whether it happens and IS CALCULATED IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WAY TO STANDARD ATTACK. You cannot calculate standard attack and critical in 1 formula as they are entirely separate processes. Just try to get that into your head.

Also, I'm not sure where I indicated I am focusing on small scale battles. Actually small battles are much more random, which is why it seems like you fail more, and the biggest battles would achieve results most in line with the formula.

Sorry, this is not how criticals works. As for the formula while the bigger battle, the cals agree with my formula, not your. You might want to check that before post.

My average 8 attack take theses 16 posibles results: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 and 16. Of couse, rolls between 1 and 8 have sighly more chance that rolls from 9 to 16.

I already explained you that 4.5 would be legitm for low scale, but you dont seems to understand how criticals can affect the larger scales. The results of larger scales depends of the criticals, and 4.9 for a 16-max-attack unit is just not possible. I already gived Facts about this.

Pretty close huh?
Ofcourse in reality the rolls would be much more random than this, but I can't simulate this very well. So unless in really big battles the number would differ further than 0.1

meh you 2 got me completely confused about criticals .Congratulations. Can someone clearly explain what critical attack is? My understanding is something along the lines. 1 tank when attacking has 8 attack(actually attack depends on rolls). If critical gets counted it will be 3 more( since critical for tank is 3). I agree the max attack of tanks can't be more than 8 it can be max 11 because of the criticals. Just post as clearly as possible your idea of criticals.

Nope, I talked about Max attack, not Max roll. You refered this whole post as Max roll. If you read what I wroted, I say max roll goes between 1 and 8, while a critical hit can enlable the rolls to go from 9 to 16.

We will never understand each others if you talk about Max roll(1-8) and I talk about Max attack(1-16).

Max attack = Max roll. Criticals are not part of it.
Whatever you are talking about you can't calculate max attack + criticals using the formula you used.

Nothing is going to be perfectly accurate, but larger battles would yield much more accurate results than smaller battles. What I said was really large battles would have the most accurate results, if you read my post again.

I'ts very simple. My tank has a max attack of 8 and a critical chance of 5%.
When a critical hit is dealt it adds the max attack of the tank to the current roll.

So, say I rolled 4 attack, I then have a 5% chance of adding a critical hit to that, which would give me 8 extra attack. Therefore the total attack would be roll+critical = 4+8 = 12 attack.

ERROR.

Max attack = the higher hit points the unit can get. For a tank is 16.
Max roll = the higher hit point the unit can get without critical. For a tank it is 8.

If you cant difference theses two concepts then we cant keep discussing lol.

Clovis, critical is not attack. Critical is derived from attack, but is calculated in an entirely different way. If you want you can call max roll what I call max attack, but they are just names. Sorry if I have misled you, but I thought you understood that the attack is the roll, and the critical is something else.

It would be confusing for me to say max attack includes critical because it doesn't. Tell me where you see 16 here:

When I say attack I am excluding critical hits. Therefore the attack of a unit = the roll it has. I am doing this so you understand that critical is not attack. I admit I have refered to attack as max attack which could be confusing, but that's just my choice of words.

meh i wouldnt worry, only a handful of new players would take the time to sit down read and comprehend this thread, and its those players who will grow to be good and pick up all this stuff anyway.

anyway if i was a new player seeking aw gameplay info and tips and tricks, a thread called "curiosities about atwar" wouldnt be somewhere i would think to look.

anyway improving the quality of new players coming to aw can only be a good thing

Most people think 2 inf have the same attack as 1 tank.

The name aint wrong. I've made this post for post and discuss about facts or curiousity about atWar. Of couse, many tricks are also a fact - hence why I posted them here.

The idea of this post is not to be a trick guide, but fill it with curiousity insteat.

You know i dont support this thread. What took some years for people to develop and notice and create, u just told every (noob/pro/etc.) player in this game.
Now every new player can tryhard to play like the good old ones...
U just teach secrets of many clans/people to all of aw.... such a shame

They changed SM? I remember it used to nerf infantry critical chance by two, now it lowers infantry attack. Wow didn't notice

op liars..... almost 1 month yet almost nobody has even tried to add somenthing new. oh well.

I will do somenthing that in spanish we say: " If MAHOMA doesnt go to the mountain, then the mountain will go to MAHOMA."

I always thought it to be an arabic origin of saying.

You pretty much summed most of the valuable information. Perhaps you need to advertise it more often on global, so players who haven't seen it yet can come and add up new questions/infos
